Job Description

Duties, Responsibility and Physical Requirements:

Rough Grading

  • Review plans for most current plan date, completeness, sectional thicknesses & conflicts.
  • Boot up all onsite survey stakes to show subgrade elevation and color code as appropriate. (Before excavation begins.)
  • Review cut/fill sheet for discrepancies.
  • Lay out pads.
  • Lay out column lines if necessary.
  • Monitor over excavation.
  • Lay out retention tops and bottoms.
  • Lay out hardscape areas.
  • Lay out parking lots.
  • Blue top pads.
  • Verify retention bottoms for elevation and area.

Concrete Fine Grading

  • Review plans for most current plan date, completeness, sectional thicknesses & conflicts.
  • Check plan for type of curb.
  • Verify sections with MAG specifications.
  • Boot up stakes to show subgrade elevation.
  • Lay out curb transitions as needed.
  • Verify curb grade for accuracy.

Subgrade / ABC Fine Grade

  • Review plans for most current plan date, completeness, sectional thicknesses & conflicts.
  • Check plans for paving areas with <1% fall and report to Superintendent.
  • Review GPS Team's concrete as-built plans for any drainage issues created by the concrete installation.
  • Feather all surveyor blue tops.
  • Mark curbs for subgrade elevation and finish ABC elevation. (Maintain 6' reveal from top of curb.)
  • Split hubs as needed.
  • After subgrade has been cut, install rough ABC hubs for ABC placing operation.
  • Subgrade / ABC Fine Grade continued
  • Verify flow in all paving areas and present superintendent with options for resolving flow challenges.
  • Verify <2% fall in handicap stalls.

Layout Maricopa edges

  • Must be proficient at reading survey stakes.
  • Must be proficient at interpreting all types of construction plans & drawings.
  • Must have a general understanding of soils & densities
  • Must have an excellent understanding of the function and capabilities of all common earthmoving equipment so that they are competent to make minor changes in field operations for the purpose of maximizing productivity.
  • Ensure each project's 100% compliance to all Ace Asphalt's Grade Checking Standards.
  • Watch & report wear items early enough so they can be repaired in a scheduled manor - cutting edges, teeth, brass, hoses
  • Always comply to all company work & safety policies
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and working order.

Work environment:

  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles such as dust, etc
  • Ability to work in an external environment and under many weather conditions such as frigid cold, and exposure to vibration and/or loud noise
  • Employer will provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as needed, but will be the responsibility of the employee to dress appropriately for the weather conditions


  • Must possess willingness to learn new technology and techniques.
  • Strong organizational, record keeping and follow up skills.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be a self -starter and problem solver.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and change priorities as necessary


  • Minimum of two years' experience in construction related role
  • Bilingual is a plus but not required
  • Ability to provide a valid driver's license with medical card and meet company insurance policy (CDL class A is a plus)
  • Must be able to provide legal right to work in the U.S. as BBAC participates in E-Verify
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Must be able to work six days a week, including weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation
